Vor rund 2 Monaten habe ich an dieser Stelle die web-basierte Projektmanagement-Software activeCollab vorgestellt (vgl. ActiveCollab: Die Open-Source-Version von Basecamp<\/a>). Inzwischen ist der Entwickler Ilija Studen dem Beispiel von 37signals gefolgt: Er will das n\u00e4chste Release 1.0 nicht mehr unter einer Open-Source-Lizenz freigeben, sondern eine Firma gr\u00fcnden, die nebst einer kostenlosen Version f\u00fcr Privatpersonen und Non-Profit-Organisationen auch eine kostenpflichtige Businessversion anbietet.<\/p>\n

Die Community zeigte sich \u00fcber diese Entscheidung mehrheitlich entt\u00e4uscht, wie den Kommentaren zur offiziellen Ank\u00fcndigung<\/a> zu entnehmen ist. In einer nachgeschobenen Erkl\u00e4rung<\/a> bem\u00fchte sich Studen zwar, gewisse Bef\u00fcrchtungen zu zerstreuen. Auch scheint noch nicht jedes Detail gekl\u00e4rt zu sein. Aber es ist zumindest klar, dass activeCollab in Zukunft keine Open Source Software mehr sein wird:<\/p>\n

«We will make sure that developers get access to the source code, but that does not mean that it will be available under the terms of classic open source licenses such is GPL, LGPL, MPL…<\/strong> There are a lot of communities that work this way – vBulletin, IPB, Expression Engine etc. Developers have all the resources they need to develop their own functionality on top of the system, but the system itself is still the property of company who develops it.<\/strong>«<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
